Friday is my writing day.
I write every day (the writing muse loves a writing routine), but Friday is different…
On Friday, I do nothing but write…Well, I also drink coffee and eat cake. But those are purely fuel for the writing.

I’m lucky enough to have a full-time, successful indie author friend here in Hong Kong who joins me on these Fridays. She’s a fantastic inspiration, and I get so much done in her company.
We try to move around our Friday writing spots each week. Both of us have a home-base cafe during the rest of the week – each with a cast of regulars and a favourite seat. These Friday writing sessions are a great way to mix it up and get some new energy into the week.
This Friday, Hong Kong is still suffering from the after effects of tropical storm Wipha (pronounced Wee-pah – it’s a female name, contributed to the list of regional storm names by Thailand). Our Friday writing session was done in an open-fronted cafe, which had a great view of the passing rain showers.
Speeding to the end of the book
I was working on Book 2 of The Heathervale Mysteries – Crying over Spilled Milk. I’ve just passed the half way point and I’m picking up steam. I love writing the second half of a book – by that stage, I’ve teased out all the threads of the mystery, and I get to weave them back together in interesting and surprising ways to keep the reader guessing right up to the end! I also got to update the progress tracker on the homepage.
Writing Retreat
This week, I also confirmed dates for my favourite feature of my writing routine – my annual retreat to Cheung Chau with a group of friends who fly in from New York and London (plus a couple of others who are a little closer to home).
The retreat location is a gorgeous little fishing village, which is easily reached by ferry. It has the best sea food for miles around, along with a stomach-busting array of other great foods. It also has a fantastically relaxing atmosphere, which makes for a retreat that’s both productive and restful.
The retreat isn’t for a few more months yet, so these photos from last year will have to tide me over till then…
